Heathens 47-22 Kobs

Betway Kobs succumbed to their first and only loss of the season after Hima cement Heathens pummeled them 47-22 in the final game of the season played at Kyadondo Rugby Grounds on Saturday evening.

Heathens started as expected and Philip Wokorach put the first points on the board with a penalty. His boot was perfect throughout the game.

Joseph Aredo set himself up with a loop over the Heathens defence and touched down before converting to give Kobs their first lead.

Wokorach’s penalties continued to give Heathens the edge.Brian Asaba was sent to the sin bin and Heathens utilized the numeric advantage to score through Wokorach (Philip) before Asaba made amends soon after coming back on.

Aredo missed a couple of penalties that would have put Kobs in control and the home side went into the halftime break with a one point lead (16-15).

The second stanza belonged to the Robert Sseguya coached side and Cox Babuhiga, Michael Wokorach, Alex Mubiru and Philip (Wokorach) touched down to expand Heathens lead.

Aredo’s try late in the game was not enough to help Kobs to their eighteenth win of the season.

Mock guard of honour

As earlier reported by Kawowo Sports, Heathens players denied Kobs the guard of honour before the game and the new champions responded by giving the home side a guard of honor in the middle of the pitch.

Heathens then formed a tunnel for Kobs as they marched to the podium for their medals.

Silver medals

While Kobs are the champions, the medals handed to the players suggest otherwise. Whoever got the medals’ contract must be colour blind or probably failed to find gold.

Silver medals were presented to the players.
