Team Uganda leads the 2016 FIM Africa central Africa motocross challenge after a dominant show in the first round at Garuga race track.
Team Uganda initially had an advantage over Kenya fielding more riders than their counterparts in the weekend’s event.
The absence of Kenyan riders in the MX1 assured Uganda a walkover securing all the 217points in the class.
The 2015 CAC MX1 champion and team Uganda captain Maxim Van Pee easily won all three heats step.
Van Pee was pleased with the overall results and he anticipates Uganda to seal the championship in Kenya.
“Definitely am so happy overall we got the win, so am proud as a captain the riders gave it their whole in this event,” he said.
“You know Uganda and Kenya have this rivalry that has last for long so to beat Kenya gives us hope ahead.”
“Am sure we can win this year’s title, we plan to stage a bigger team for the second round in Kenya and we shall surely beat them,” he asserted.
Uganda also won in the MX85 and 65cc class thanks to the impressive rides by the Orland brothers Aviv and Stav.
Kenya’s Ngungi Waweru kept a clean sheet yet again after he won all the three heats of the combined MX1 and MX125 class.
“The race was good despite the slippery surface but we managed to finish it safe,” says Ngungi who led team Kenya.
“My team did quite well considering the small team we brought, am proud they step out to the competition winning some stages.”
“Personally I only felt pressure from my teammate Rolf who tried to close on me as the Ugandan came from behind, but we are going to work on a few things as we prepare for Uganda in the second round in Kenya,” he added.
Kenya’s Rolf Kihara and Jaiden Takunnen won the MX125 and MX50 categories respectively.
