On May 15 2014 prop Brian Odongo was named captain of the Rugby Cranes by then coach Peter Magona who at the time descried the Kobs skippers as a natural leader.

Uganda was getting ready for the CAR tier B challenge in Tunisia from June 10th-14th, an outing that didn’t go well as Odongo and company lost all matches.

The prop’s ability to lead the Rugby Cranes to glory were witnessed last year after his troop beat five other countries in Kampala to gain promotion to CAR Tier 1A.

And although he smiles while reminded about his first outing as Rugby Cranes captain, Odongo has remained optimistic that the Rugby Cranes won’t be pushers once the competition starts next month.

We want to maintain that winning touch as a team but also get some respect as a good rugby team, am sure the coaches and we the players are on the same page. Whoever will be selected must be able to do the job and it’s only hard work that will earn us the respect we deserve

Uganda’s international season will start with the defense of the Elgon Cup against Kenya on June 4, Odongo and company defeated Kenya 47-45 on aggregate last year to lift the title.

Uganda will then host Namibia on July 2, in the side’s only home game in the CAR competition, before visiting Zimbabwe on July 16 and Kenya July 30, a tie that will also double as the second leg of the Elgon Cup.

Those are all tough games that need a team well-conditioned and fit enough to compete, the reason everyone gives 100 percent in training we must retain the Elgon Cup but also play our hearts out in the CAR games

Added Odongo who just last week lead Kobs to their 13th league title at the expense of bitter rivals Hima Cement Heathens despite the latter winning the last game of the season 47-22.
