Melvyn Lorenzen is a name not familiar to many Ugandans.
The 21-year-old Werder Bremen player is among the 21 players that Uganda Cranes head coach, Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic has summoned ahead of the AFCON 2017 against Botswana.
Lorenzen, a player with Germany and British roots was born in the United Kingdom to a Ugandan father (Drake Mugisa) and a German mother.
He has played 39 senior games for the German giants, scoring six goals.
There are three goalkeepers, five defenders, six midfielders and seven strikers on the team.
On fire Rayon Sports striker Davis Kasirye (12 goals in the Rwanda Premier League) is the other surprise player summoned.
There are only three home based players on the team in Joseph Ochaya (KCCA), Erisa Ssekisambu (Vipers) and Proline striker Edrisa Lubega who is now with Dynamics S.S at the Copa Schools football tournament in Soroti.
While naming the squad, Micho who also released the detailed programme prior the training camp and said the game against Zimbabwe will offer a perfect test for Uganda.
Majority of the players summoned are expected to arrive by Monday, 23rd May 2016 before non residential training starts at Accacia fitness gym.
