Rugby Cranes scrumhalf Kevin Makmot was withdrawn at halftime and replaced by Davis Kyewalabye as the Kenya Simbas feasted on the home side for a convincing 48-10 win.

While the score may suggest that Kenya were superior compared to the Elgon Cup defending champions, Makmot echoes head coach Robert Sseguya’s words that the hosts just made lots of mistakes on the day and can correct them.

“We were punished for making so many mistakes,” Makmot told Kawowo Sports after the team’s training session Tuesday evening. “It was quite easy for them because we had a very terrible day,” he added.

Uganda go into the return leg next month with a huge mountain to climb in a fixture that will bear huge significance both on Uganda’s ranking, their defense of the Elgon Cup and most importantly their stay in the tier 1A.

“As expected we are back to the drawing board to make sure we are ready for the next challenge,” the Rhino’s half back said.

The immediate challenge for Sseguya’s troops will be Namibia. Uganda will host the Southwest Africans on July 2 in their first encounter of the tier 1A championship.

The team has barely had time to rest since the lethargic show on Saturday with training resuming on Tuesday.

They will travel to South Africa on Saturday morning and will have a 12-day camp in Free State before returning for the tough test next month.
