Sporting disciplines world over play several fundamental roles as far as community sensitization, enhancing harmonization, unity and the promotion of healthy minds and bodies is concerned.
For the bare minimum, sport has remained a unifying tool whose value to bring together opposing sides and bitter foes can never be under estimated.
Tales of rival fans from the different religious, political, tribal dimensions being brought on the same wavelength by football, cricket, basketball, tennis, athletics, chess, hockey, rugby, golf or netball are very well documented.
Most important to note is the fact how sports has further fostered easy mobilization of vast communities in the different spheres to become a ‘global village’.
Football, the number one sport in the world is more or less a religion whose role to entertain masses and provide a plat-form to convey different messages is so much appreciated.
It is upon this rich background that Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) joined the bandwagon of sports federations in the world to promote charity.
The donations are intended to help the missionaries of the poor, a charity group in Kisenyi, a Kampala based slum.
FUFA through the oldest knock out competition in the country – the Uganda Cup attached a charity project to the event (tournament played since 1971).
Here; fans, media personnel, players or football administrators are tasked to contribute material items to the charity project.
For the sheer heart of helping the less privileged in community live the better desired lifestyle, people from all walks of lives have been engaged to donate accordingly.
Items as shoes, clothes, bags and other household utensils are being collected up to the 18th June 2016, the day when the Uganda Cup final will be played at Nakivubo war memorial stadium.
Besides the generous hearts to help the disadvantaged in society, such a project is another plus and bonus towards the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) cause.
Corporate companies have always set a special budget towards paying back in the local communities.
So, are individuals with loving and giving kind hearted souls.
Who knows the person you have dressed today will pay back in equal or much better currency 5 to 10 years from now.
Collection of items is still underway at FUFA Main Headquarters in Mengo, Kampala and at Nakivubo stadium.
We meet at Nakivubo stadium as the tournament dark horses Onduparaka face Vipers in the final this Saturday.
Let us fully support the programme for the Lord loves a cheerful giver.
