A year after helping the Rugby Cranes gain promotion to the Rugby Afrique Tier A category, South African John Duncan is back to see the team through the Tier 1A games that start on July 2.
The tactician met the team in South Africa as the team underwent training in Free State and is confident the team can surprise many when the games start.
“This is a good young side and they have a chance of staying in this division,” Duncan told Kawowo Sports Wednesday morning at Kyadondo Rugby Grounds.
Uganda lost to Kenya in the first leg of the Elgon Cup but Duncan remains confident the trip to South Africa has changed one or two things about the team.
“We saw the mistakes the team was making and we tried to rectify while in South Africa,” he added.
Uganda played two trial games in Free State and lost 38-13 to Cheetahs U-21 side before recovering to defeat Bloemfontein Police 24-22 in the second game.
“The team tried to do well in the second game and that shows they have leant something”.
The team has only one fixture at home with a game against Namibia before travelling to take on Zimbabwe and Kenya.
