DMARK made it four wins in four at the outset of the new season with victories over Kyambogo University and City Chess Club in the third and fourth round respectively.
The defending champions saw off the University side in a perfect manner with a resounding 5-0 win before beating City 3-2 in the final round of the day.
DMARK’S Arthur Ssegwanyi who was playing his first game of the season had a remarkable start as he outdid City’s top man Elijah Emojon (who had earlier beaten Kireka’s Harold Wanyama) in the fourth round.
With City managing just a point yesterday following their loss to defending champions and with Kireka stumbling, DMARK look likely to retain the title they’ve won four successive times.
Kireka drew 2½:2½ against their fellow title contenders, City but finished the day on a high as they hammered Bank of Uganda 5-0, reviving their hopes of winning this year’s title.
Second placed Aviation Chess Club won both their games.
A 4½:½ victory over Mulago Overs Chess Club was followed by a 4-1 win over Mulago Knights.
Aside from DMARK, Aviation are the only side to win all their games since season start.
DMARK lead the table with eight points, one ahead of Kireka, their closest and realistic rival.
