The routes for the fifth round of the National rally championship have been revealed.

The Umospoc Kabalega rally takes place on the weekend of July 22-24th in the Bunyoro Kitara region within Hoima and Masindi districts.

The event will rev off with a 2.1km super special stage at the Tiki Winyi stadium in Hoima district.

Day two will start in Hoima with two stages and move towards Masindi.  Six stages will be covered including Mpararo 10.4km, Bulindi 15.9km, Masindi stadium 2km, Olinga 43.9km, Kinyara 14.6km and Kabalya 18.6km.

Three of the stages will be repeated to sum up the 270.82km total distance .

Meanwhile, the event will recognize two iconic figures; the Omukama Chwa Kabalega II, King of Bunyoro and David Ndahura; a legendary driver from Bunyoro who died in a cockpit during the 1970 Safari rally.

“Kabalega was a national icon in this country, a lot of history is attached to him especially in Bunyoro Kitara. We could go to his region without recognising him,” says Umospoc president Justin Mungoma.

“Dhahura was not only a own but also a driver from this region, we named a stage that pass through his home after his name,” he added.

Speaking at the launch, the Prime Minister of Bunyoro Kingdom Norman Lukomu applauded the organiser for moving rally to the region.

“I am so grateful that you had to chose our region, its now decades since a rally car passed through this region.”

“We assure you of a great event, the people of Bunyoro are waiting to receive everyone and I promise you will not be disappointed,” he said.

Jas Mangat currently tops the NRC with 300points with Ronald Sebuguzi in second place; 85 points. Hassan Alwi sits in third with 170points.
