Former KCCA F.C midfielder Morley Byekwaso was on Friday unveiled at the Philip Omomdi Stadium as the club’s Assistant Manager on a two year contract.
Byekwaso’s name has been of on the lips of many to replace sacked Sam Ssimbwa who is also currently serving an eight months ban.
Byekwaso was unveiled to the media by KCCA F.C chairman Julius Kabugo in the presence of CEO David Tamale and manager Mike Mutebi who was full of praise for his former player.
He (Byekwaso) was part of my dream team in 1997 with the likes of Ibra Sekagya and Abudallah Mubiru. He was a good player but at the time I saw potential in him to be a good coach.
Mutebi said while reacting to questions from the media about what Byekwaso brings on the table.
We want to build a culture the Barcelona way, by bringing back those former players who played for the club to coach here, because they understand the culture and philosophy of KCCA and I believe Byekwaso will fit in well.
This won’t be Byekwaso’s first coaching stint at KCCA as he did work there under Matia Lule in the 2010/2011 season before taking over on an interim basis.
He won 13 games, lost five and drew five in the 23 he was in charge, before returning to work under George ‘Best’ Nsimbe in the 2012/2013 season.
Byekwaso told Kawowo Sports moments after his unveiling;
I am glad to return home and am sure I return a better coach from the time I left. I have great respect for my boss (Mike Mutebi) and ready to work together but also learn from him.
Byekwaso is a man who knows a thing or two about winning. While at Sports Club Victoria University working under Alex Isabirye, they won the 2013 Uganda Cup
He was later elevated to head coach and guided the team to the inaugural Nile basin CECAFA Cup in Sudan. While with Simba for the 2015/2016 season, he also won the Tarehe Sita cup, in which they triumphed over KCCA.
