Rugby Africa tier 1A: Zimbabwe vs. Uganda -4.30pm, Zimbabwe
After losing their home game to Namibia, the Rugby Cranes now have to do it the hard way if they are to remain in tier 1A of African rugby.
The Elgon cup holders take on the Zimbabwe Sables in Bulawayo and will be searching for a result good enough to leave them in contention for the last tier 1A slot.
With Namibia and Kenya favorites to vie for the championship, Uganda and Zimbabwe only have third place to fight for.
“We expect a tough game but we have prepared well and I believe we have all it takes to win,” head coach John Duncan told Kawowo Sports ahead of the Saturday game.
The East Africans will draw inspiration from Kenya’s last visit to Zimbabwe. The Simbas destroyed the Sables in Harare and that has left Uganda with belief that they can pick a result from the Southerners.
The team set up was hampered by injuries to first centre Gerald Ssewankambo and flank Ronald Musajjagulanyago. The two are expected to be replaced by Oscar Kalyango and Brian Asaba as Uganda try to rectify the mistakes made against the Namibians.
“We have worked on most of the issues we had in our first game and we want to see how it works against Zimbabwe, ” Duncan said.
Chris Lubanga, is expected to retain his starting place at number 10 despite putting up an ugly display against Namibia.
Ivan Magomu, Paul Masendi, Joseph Aredo and Philip Wokorach are the available options but Duncan will choose to go with “class” and not “form”.
Davis Kyewalabye is the only fit scrum half with Kevin Makmot also ruled with injury until the Kenya game.
Probable line up: Asuman Mugerwa, Cyrus Wathum, Brian Odong, Charles Uhuru, Byron Oketayot, Brian Asaba, Pius Ogena, Marvin Odong, Davis Kyewalabye, Chris Lubanga, Lawrence Ssebuliba, Oscar Kalyango, Michael Wokorach, James Odong, Philip Wokorach.
