Uganda 15’s coach John Duncan has expressed delight at Rugby Cranes’ exploits following their trademark win against Zimbabwe, a feat that brightened their hopes of stay in Africa’s top elite teams for another year.
Uganda were promoted last year and have carried their form, forcing potential stay in the highest tier in the continent.
“Critically the boys were up for the game, i think it was a much improved Zimbabwe team, kudos to them because they really came out and gave us a really hard game,” he told Zimbabwe Daily News.
Uganda Rugby Cranes defeated the Sables 27-34, with Oscar Kalyango, Lawrence Ssebuliba, Marvin Odongo, Phillip Wokorach and Asuman Mugerwa getting onto the score sheet.
“The Zimbabwe forwards were physical, we knew we weren’t going to get a run over them so we had to play in space and speed up the game and i think when we managed to speed the game up we did well.”
Uganda face Kenya next in what will double as the second leg of the Elgon Cup as well as Africa Rugby Tier 1A in Nairobi on 30th July at the RFUEA grounds. Cranes lost the first leg in Kampala 10-48.
