The Uganda National Boxing League is set to return this Saturday, 30th July 2016 after 27 years in the limbo.

The national league, an initiative of the Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF) will have nine teams tussling at the Lugogo Indoor Arena in Kampala.

UBF mouth piece Fred Kavuma is excited about the development, a dividend of great planning by the Federation.

Since 1988/89, we have not held the National Boxing League.

This is a dream come true.

To add up numbers in a record time, the federation plans to host a number of exhibition games in the countryside around Kakira, Mbarara, Mbale, Gulu and Lira will further act to attract individuals to the sport.

On a silver lining, National Council of Sports (NCS) has fully blessed the project.

First, NCS has offered the Lugogo facility at a zero fee on top of offering fighting gear (gloves, punch pads) as well as trophies and other rewards that will be give to various winners to motivate.

Capacity Building:

NCS, represented by the General Secretary, Nicolas Muramagi has also vowed to assist the boxing federation in capacity building by sponsoring two of the just qualified AIBA Star one coaches for the next stage.

Clubs such as Nytil, Kilembe, KCC, KCB and Foods & Beverages took part the last time the league was held.

Kavuma, who was flanked by another UBF official Simon Barigo hinted on the vivid significance of the domestic boxing league.

The immediate aim of the league is to allow players keep fresh and active rather than waiting for national open meet. This in a way will also widen the pool for quality selection of a sound national team

The league is expected to run till October 2016.
