Great Britain’s Laura Muir defeated Olympic champion Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon in Paris’s Diamond League meet, breaking the British record for the 1500m.
Muir posted 3:55.22 off finishing seventh at the Rio Olympics that ended a week ago.
Athletes around the world congratulated her on her victory. She was the previous record-holder, running 3:57.49 in July to break Dame Kelly Holmes’s time of 3:57.90, set in Athens 2004.
Kenya’s Kipyegon crossed the finish line second fifty seconds later.
She previously won the category in the Rio Olympics. She is also the Commonwealth champion having won the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland with a time of 4 minutes 08.94 seconds
