Samuel Kayondo, one of the most respected and longest serving FIFA Assistant Referees has announced his retirement from active refereeing at the end of the year 2016.
In 2015, Kayondo clocked the mandatory 45 year age mark, the limit set by Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) but decided to give service for one more year.
I have served the game well and I believe it is time up that I retire officially for other work elsewhere.
It has been an incredible journey moved full of ups and downs.
I will forever cherish to follow young referees and guide them accordingly in their line of duty.
The decision to retire from refereeing crossed my mind immediately after the Sadolin Paints and Sports Club Villa held last month at the Kyabazinga stadium in Bugembe.
I am retiring to concentrate on farming and help educate many aspiring young referees.
Kayondo has been in active refereeing for the last 22 years.
He has served as FIFA Assistant Referee for eleven years.
The trained journalist will continue to serve refereeing appointments up to December 2016.
Over the years, Kayondo has handled high profile FIFA, CAF, CECAFA and domestic football duels.
