Rhino vs. Buffaloes – 4:00 pm, Legends

Rhino have been the most active side in the off season transfer market as they look to unsettle the Kobs-Heathens duopoly of Ugandan Rugby when the new season starts.

Rhino will this Saturday entertain fellow league side Buffaloes in a friendly game at Legends Rugby Ground and newly appointed head coach Brian Makalama is expected to assemble his strongest side to ensure cohesion and see where to strengthen.

“We are working hard in training but we need to get match fitness before we start serious competitions,” scrumhalf Kevin Makmot told Kawowo Sports ahead of the friendly on Saturday.

“Buffaloes are a good side and they will give us a good test to see where our weaknesses are before the season,” he added.

Scot Oluoch, who sat out last season as he took a sabbatical from the game, is joined by veteran Mathias Ochwo as Rhino’s most outstanding acquisitions.

This year’s revelation Rugby Cranes lock Byron Oketayot and flyhalf/center Stallone Arinaitwe are the other additions for the Legends side that is still keen on James Odong from Kenyan side Kabras Sugar.

Having maintained the core of the side that played last season, Makalama’s first task with Rhino is a trip to Uganda Christian University for the team’s first game in the Uganda Cup.

Daudi Ssemwami, Herman Ssekamwa, Francis Odonga and Makmot are some of the dependable players who have stayed with the side and hope to put up a commendable show in the league but first in the Uganda cup.

“We are ready to challenge any team because we have really trained and everyone can’t wait to start playing,” Makmot assured this website.
