International build-up: 4th October 2016

Togo Sparrows Vs Uganda Cranes – Kegue Stadium, Lome

Uganda Cranes’ head coach, Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredejovic believes the training camp in West Africa and the international build up with Togo is a perfect preparatory plat form for his charges ahead of the Ghana clash in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

A training camp in West Africa will provide the Cranes with that acclimatization advantage considering the fact that every time we have held a training camp before a major match, the results have been convincing.

Then the match against Togo will give me a clear picture of who is ready to face Togo and who is not

Meanwhile, the Togoese national team head coach Claude Le Roy named a strong squad to face Uganda including among others former Arsenal, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspurs forward Emmanuel Sheyi Adebayor.

Europe based players dominate the squad that has two goalkeepers, eight defenders, seven midfielders and six forwards.

The team is led by skipper Serge Akakapo who features for Turkey side Trabzonspor. Floyd Ayite (Fulham, England), Standard Liege’s Matthieu Dossevi who came off the bench in the qualifiers game against Uganda are the other key players.

The friendly is set to be played on October 4 at the Kegue Stadium as Cranes prepare for the first group game of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Ghana.

Togo will use the friendly in preparation for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations to be held in Gabon next year.

The Sparrow Hawks secured qualification after romping to a 5-0 victory over minnows Djibouti in the last group game.

Uganda Cranes eliminated Togo in the pre-group round 4-0 on aggregate to make the group stages of the qualifiers.
