Cape Town City 1-2 Baroka

Baroka Football Club earned a 2-1 away win against Cape Town City in the Absa Premiership at the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday.

A goalless first half paved way to a goal laden second stanza that witnessed Cape Town lose their unbeaten run in the top flight.

Baroka found two quick strikes upon restart when Mzwanele Mahashe and Cleopas Dube scored in the 51st and 53rd minutes respectively.

Given Mashikinya pulled a goal back with a decent flick for the ‘Citizens’ in the 54th minute to create a tense climax to the fast paced game.

The ‘Bakgaga ba ga Mphahlele’ side granted playing time for stylish Uganda Cranes midfielder Khalid Aucho who was introduced five minutes into the second half for his first feel of the South African football.

Former Orlando Pirates’ midfielder Lehlohonolo Majoro managed to put the ball into the net for the home side only to be denied by the off-side flag of the first assistant referee.

This was the first official clash between newly-formed Cape Town City and newly-promoted Baroka FC.

Baroka is also home to another Ugandan, Geoffrey Massa who transferred from Bloemfontein Celtic (Massa was among the un-used substitutes for the game).

The Limpopo side ascends to 8th on the 18 team log with 7 points fetched.
