Vipers 1-0 Kirinya Jinja SS
An early goal from striker Tony Odur was enough to send Vipers joint top as they edged visiting Kirinya Jinja SS 1-0 at Nakivubo stadium.
The two-time champions came into the game on the back of a disappointing 2-all draw with Proline on Saturday and desperately need to pick maximum points.
Abdallah Mubiru made two changes from the side that started against Proline with striker Musa Esenu and goalie Ismail Watenga starting ahead of Shafik Bakaki and James Alitho.
Deus Bukenya partnered Halid Lwaliwa at the heart of defence with Hassan Wasswa and Keziron Kizito starting in midfield.
The hosts started well and in the 5th minute, came the only goal of the game as Odur headed home Aggrey Madoi cross.
Midfielder Otim lost possession in the middle of the pack giving way to Brian Kakaire to pass to Madoi who made no mistake but weigh in a cross that Odur scored.
Five minutes later, Esenu forced a good save from the visitors’ goalie but Alex Isabirye’s side began to settle into the game.
The score line remain unchanged in the first half and after the break, the students threw everything at Vipers and should have scored only to be denied by a superb Ismail Watenga in goal.
The returning custodian twice saved from Ibra Kizindula and Anthony Mayanja efforts but at the other end, Kakaire and Esenu should have extended the hosts lead.
It was a nervous end for the Venoms who have now amassed 19 points same as KCCA although they have played a game more.
KCCA however still lead the log thanks to superiors scored column though both teams tie on goal difference.
