From the time the draws of the National Open Pool Championship were out, one frame caught people’s eyes.

It was the first match between 2015 winner Amos Ndyagumanawe and 2009 champion Fred ‘Bonde’ Namanya.

The latter took the day on Saturday morning at the Lugogo Indoor stadium with a convincing 3-1 win.

“That’s how the game is. You win some, you lose some. There is always next time, I lost to a good player,” Ndyagumanawe said after the game.

Bonde won the first frame before faltering on the black ball in the second, Ndyagumanawe equalised.

Namanya, the more composure of the two players collected himself to attack Ndyagumanawe’s defensive approach to win the second frame.

And as many fans who had come in early, it was obvious who they wanted to win, they cheered every move Ndyagumanawe made and went quiet whenever Namanya was on table.

Not that he cared any way, a well calculated move in the fourth frame while Ndyagumanawe’s red ball was between Namanya’s yellow ball and the centre pot, he did the needful before pocketing the black.

Apart from the delay in the start of the game, last year’s champion admitted he lost fair and square.

“There was no any problem, I simply just lost. But even time, they delayed because we had to play at nine but started at 10,” he said.

The Open championship is the ninth and a new champion now will be crowned as the pool faithfuls wait for a day a player will defend this prestigious championship
