Police vs. Kirinya – Kavumba, 4:00pm
Two sides with underwhelming starts in the Uganda Premier League meet on Saturday afternoon as Police host Kirinya-Jinja SSS at Kavumba Recreational ground.
Police who are without a win in seven league games enter the match looking to register only their second win of the season, but will be up against a Kirinya-Jinja SSS side that will also be looking to kick-start their campaign.
Having finished eighth last season, there was optimism surrounding the club ahead of the new campaign, but disappointing performances have suggested it is not going to be plain sailing for the former league champions.
The Cops have registered a paltry eight points from their eleven games played thus far which has left them 13th on the log, just a point off the red zone.
Like earlier noted, they have won just once this season while drawing five times and losing as many, and in terms of attack, only six goals have been scored by the side, three of which came in the one match -against Express.
They face a Kirinya-Jinja SSS side that boasts of the best defence in the country. However, Police go into tomorrow’s game off the back of a decent result.
Coming off a humiliating defeat that saw coach Sam Timbe throw in the towel, Police managed to shut out an opponent for only their third time this term in their goalless draw away at URA. That result should restore some belief in this Police side considering the form of the opposition they were facing.
Police should also draw confidence from their solitary win considering it came against a Jinja side, Sadolin Paints on match day four.
Meanwhile Kirinya-Jinja SSS’ bid to record first top flight win continues tomorrow. Last time out, the league debutants lost 1-0 to Vipers at Nakivubo Stadium. They have been bad travelers with only one point secured in their four outings thus far.
The last time the side visited Kavumba, Kirinya-Jinja SSS who were then unbeaten lost 1-0 to Soana. They will be hoping for a different result when they take on a struggling Police, but for that to happen, they must start scoring goals. The side has managed to net only twice.
But while Alex Isabirye’s side finds trouble finding the back of the net, they have the best defence in the league with only five goals let in. Isabirye will trust his boys to thwart any form of danger Police will cause.
The visitors are without defender Mike Kawooya who is suspended and midfielder Franco Onene who is out nursing an hamstring injury. They however welcome back winger Musa Magumba from injury.
