Godfrey ‘Jajja Walu’ Walusimbi became the 6th professional to join the Uganda Cranes team currently preparing for the Zambia and Congo Brazzaville up coming matches.
The Gor Mahia left back was part of the team’s training on Sunday at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.
He joined the first professionals who have been around since the team started training last week.
Five foreign based players had started training last week with gym sessions at Paradise mall – Moses Oloya, goalkeeper Salim Jamal, Tonny Mawejje, Geofrey ‘Baba’ Kizito and Finnish based striker Yunus Sentamu have all been training.
In fact, Mawejje and Kizito were used for the 6-1 Uganda Cranes regional tour match against Kampala Select.
Walusimbi, who trained on Sunday feels the qualificiation to AFCON after 38 years is the big motivational factor;
We were motivated by qualifying for AFCON 2017 and a draw against Ghana in our first World Cup qualifier game was such a driving factor
Twenty seven players were part of the Sunday evening training which lasted for two hours with the coach emphasizing on ball possession and shooting from various angles.
More professionals expected:
Team captain Geoffrey Massa and his Baroka teammate in South Africa Khalid Aucho, Mamelodi Sundown’s Dennis Onyango, Dennis Iguma (Al Ahed in Lebanon), Shafiq Batambuze (Tusker), Isaac Isinde, Robert Odongkara ,Yassar Mugerwa (St George,Ethiopia), William Kizto Luwagga (Rio Ave,Portugal), Ronald Mukiibi (Ostersunds) and Murshid Juuko (Simba, Tanzania) are expected in the country by Monday afternoon.
US based player, Mike Azira will be the last player to arrive on Tuesday early morning by KLM Airlines.
A full house is thus expected at the last training session that will take place on Monday evening at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.
Meanwhile, Zambia Chipolopolo Stars whom the Cranes are playing on Tuesday arrived on Sunday aboard Ethiopian Airlines.
They are accomodated at Hotel Africana in Kampala.
