Uganda Cranes will be participating in the 2017 Africa Nations Cup due in Gabon after 39 years absence and the team is already assured of $ 475,000 (Ugx 1.66 billion).

This is after the CAF Confederations Cup revised the revenue grid in a decision reached in its Executive Assembly on September 27 in Cairo, Egypt.

In a communiqué  on the confederation’s official website, the least a nation participating in the Gabon edition will walk away with that amount for finishing bottom of its group.

This is an increment of about 18.75% in comparison to the previous edition where the 4th in the group earned $ 400,000 (Ugx. 1.4billion).

Grouped alongside former champions Ghana and Egypt plus perennial participants Mali, the Cranes can earn $ 100,000 by finishing 3rd in the group.

That would total up to $ 575,000 (Ugx. 2 billion) in earnings from the Total Sponsored Africa’s biggest soccer show piece.

Knock out stages:

However, if the 1978 finalists make it to the quarter finals, they will earn $ 800,000 (Ugx. 2.8 billion) after an increment of over 33.3% from the previous four editions where the losing quarter finalist earned $600,000.

At the semi-finals, the prize will be $ 1,500,000 (Ugx. 5.25 billion), an increment of 100% given the losing teams at this stage in the previous edition walked home with $ 750,000.

Finalists

The runners-up in Gabon will earn $ 2,000,000 (Ugx. 7 billion) which is 100% more than the previous edition losing finalists took home.

The biggest prize will go to the champions whose prize money has been increased by 166% from $ 1,500,000 (Ugx. 5.25 billion) to $ 4,000,000 (Ugx. 14 billion).
