Francisco Aguliera from Spain

A top International Handball Federation (IHF) coach, Francisco Aguilera believes Uganda has what it takes to rise among the top in beach handball.

There is a lot of potential in Uganda and good enough, all the players are willing to learn and add to the skills they already have.

Aguilera closely supervised a week-long training camp for beach soccer held at Entebbe Sports beach.

The camp was very great. Beach handball is good to develop even the skills needed in the main stream handball.

For instance, positioning, ball handling, defence, movements and that 360 degree turn before scoring which has been perfected at the beach handball training camp.

Local coach George Isabirye, who closely worked with Aguilera for the week also sings special praise of the camp.

The players learnt a lot of skills which will be beneficial towards the general improvement of their game overall.

Prisons lady player, Agnes Nalule acknowledged having learnt lots of new skills from the camp.

The camp was one of the best I have attended.

We have learnt positioning, handling and passing the ball, defending, scoring, goalkeeping and how to control the game tempo.

We need to have more good handball playing facilities, shields and balls to play better.

The same position was sought by the Uganda Handball Federation (UHF) President Shirah Agonzibwe Richardson but cried to the Government through the National Council of Sports (NCS) for improved infrastructure of the game in the country.

Twenty eight players from the different clubs and institutions successfully completed the residential training camp at Sports beach.

There are plans to have the beach soccer handball league as well as have national team in place ready to play in the regional and continental tournaments.
