Rugby Sevens coach Tolbert Onyango named his 14-man squad to feature in the upcoming HSBC World Series that start December 3 in Dubai.
The team, comprising of mostly inexperienced players at the big stage, has all it takes to do well at the big stage according to senior player Michael Wokorach.
“It’s a good team and it was selected on merit. It has all it takes to perform well,” Wokorach, who is one of the only players to have played in front of big crowds before, told Kawowo Sports.
Wokorach and new Rhinos signing Byron Oketayot are the only additions to the team that won the Africa Cup title in Nairobi, Kenya.
“It’s a big challenge for the young players. They have been watching teams like South Africa on TV but now they have the opportunity to face them on pitch,” the Heathens captain said.
Uganda will come up against teams like South Africa, USA and Scotland as they venture into new waters.
“It’s a chance for us to test ourselves against the best teams in the business and we welcome that opportunity,” the Rugby Cranes assistant captain noted.
The team is expected to leave for Dubai on November 28 and will connect straight to South Africa for the Cape Town Sevens thereafter.
The Dubai Sevens will take place on the weekend of 2nd-3rd December while the Cape Town tournament follows on the weekend of 10th-11th December in South Africa.
Despite Wokorach’s inclusion to the team, Onyango has chosen to maintain Eric Kasiita as the team captain with Philip Wokorach deputizing the Buffaloes skipper.
