2016 Bika Bya Buganda championships:
Football Final: Nte 0 (5) – 0 (4) Balangira
Netball champion: Ngeye
Nte Clan defeated Balangira 5-4 on penalties to win the 2016 Bika Bya Baganda football tourney at the Ntenjeru play ground in Bugerere Ssaza on Sunday.
This was their second title since 2010 of the 66 year old knock out competition.
Normal time of the well-attended but rain-laden final also graced by the Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II had eclipsed goal-less.
Balangira suffered a shock when their star player, Murushid Jjuuko was substituted following a severe head injury minutes to the final whistle.
In the penalties, Nte won 6-5 thanks to well converted strikes from Peter Lwaasa, Joshua Kalisa, Rajab Kakooza, Jimmy Kalisa and Mahad Kakooza.
Sam Ssenkoomi missed his kick to give temporary advantage to Balangira but Yayo Lutimba failed failed to utilize the advantage.
Vincent Walugembe Kayizzi, Hakim Ssenkumba, Frank Kalanda, Ali Kimera all scored for the Balangira as Yayo Lutimba and Yusuf Jjuuko missed.
Balangira has not won the Bika championship since 1961 when they shared the crown with Kkobe.
Ngeye won the 2016 Netball title.
