Kenyan cyclist, Samuel Mwangi has been amputated after a horrible road accident suffered during the final stage of the 2016 Tour Du Rwanda competition.

Featuring for Kenya Riders Downunder team, Mwangi broke his left femur bone during the stage seven of the Kigali-Kigali section at Kibagabaga.

Mwangi’s team confirmed the sad news on their official Facebook page as reported by New Times, a publication in Rwanda;

Kenyan Riders Downunder cyclist Samwel Mwangi has had his left lower leg amputated after a crash that broke his femur on the last stage of the @tourdurwanda.

Mwangi is holding it together very very well.

An inspiration from his hospital bed. We are looking into options for Mwangi’s future. Stay strong mate!

Mwangi, 32, was 35th overall in the general classification before the crash.

This year alone, he took part in the Tour de Flores, Tour Ethiopian Meles Zenawi, and the Tour of China.

Team Kenyan Rider Downunder finished 10th  on the general team classification out of the 15 teams that had participated in this year’s edition.
