With less than 40 days to the long awaited 2017 Africa Nations Cup (AFCON) tournament in Gabon, Egypt and AS Roma midfielder, Muhammed Salah is struggling with a serious ankle injury sustained last Wednesday.
According to the initial test conducted by AS Roma, the 24-year-old suffered “a lesion of the ligament”.
The prognosis for the ailment is a mandatory 21-day rest period.
Salah , who was voted the fans’ favourite player (non Ugandan) at the 2016 Airtel – FUFA Awards has so far scored 9 goals in 16 games for the Italian side this season.
Egypt begin their Nations Cup campaign on 17th January 2016 against Mali in Port Gentil.
The Pharaohs are in Group D, which is completed by Ghana Black Stars and the Uganda Cranes.
Uganda will face Egypt on 21st January 2017 in Port Gentil. This will be the second game for the two countries.
Hosts Gabon kick off the tournament on 14 January with a Group A match against Guinea-Bissau.
The final will take place on 5 February 2017.
