Claire Lamunu is turning heads with her performance in the 2016-17 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) basketball season.
The star forward led Vanguard University to their sixth consecutive victory as they defeated La Sierra University 110-51 on Saturday night.
Lamunu sunk 13-of-20 from the floor and stuffed the stat sheet with 33 points, 21 rebounds, 4 assists, 6 steals and 3 blocks.
Vanguard utilized offensive rebounds and timely defensive plays to quickly open up a double-digit lead early into the game and had a 19-6 advantage after the first period.
By the halftime intermission, Vanguard was ahead 51-20 behind a double-double by Lamunu who started to take charge after managing just five points in the first quarter.
The second half followed the same script as the former KCCA star opened the third quarter scoring from the line and her dominance began to flourish.
Vanguard kept escalating the margin, building it to 50 points just two minutes into the fourth period.
The Lions had last scored 100-plus points against the same opponents last year.
Five other Lions scored in double figures – Maya Kennedy had 14 and the trio of Kandyce Smith, Christiana Gerostergiou and Victoria Chea each added 11 points. Raechelle Davis connected 5-of-7 from the field in her first outing in a Lions uniform, totaling 12 points.
Alexis Davis scored 15 points and picked 9 rebounds to pace La Sierra. DeShields Fajardo and Amanda Sanchez contributed 13 and 10 points respectively.
Vanguard takes on Dickinson State University on Monday, December 19 and then University of La Verne the next day.
