Long serving Ivory Coast forward Salomon Kalou will call it quits after the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.

Kalou, 31, won the Africa Cup of Nations in 2015 in Equatorial Guinea.

Now at Germany side Hertha Berlin, Kalou believes he has served to the best of his abilities and it time up to hung up national team boots as he continues with club football.

He has played seven African Cup of Nations and two World Cup finals in ten years with his country side;

Of course this is my last.

I am 31 years old and soon in August I will have 32. It will be said that I have been blessed throughout my career with the Elephants with whom I played seven African Nations Cups.

I keep good memories of fantastic days. My best memory is undoubtedly the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

It is therefore with great pleasure and pride to have reached this level of play that I will retire.

He expects to end his national team football on a sound note having played to two draws against Togo and the Democratic Republic of Congo in the opening matches at AFCON 2017.

I am proud of the direction my national team career took. There, I will try to profit from the end.

He has scored 29 goals in 81 appearances, making him the second highest scorer for the country behind former Chelsea teammate Didier Drogba.

When he does finally retire, the former ASEC Mimosa, Feyenoord Rotterdam and Lille forward will become the sixth Elephant to end his international career after Didier Drogba, Zokora Didier, Kolo Touré, Copa Barry and Yaya Touré, since the last World Cup in Brazil.

Ivory Coast plays Morocco on Tuesday night at Stade D’Oyem in a fixture that they need to win in order to be sure of qualification to the quarter finals.
