South Africa Premier Soccer League side Free State Stars released seven players on a mutual consent agreement.
Among the seven is Ugandan forward Hamis ‘Diego’ Kiiza.
Reabetsoe Rakoti, Tshepo Mothiba, David Booysen, Johnny Mathole, Brandon Dean, Mohamed Aoudou and Hamis Kiiza are the confirmed players released to seek employment elsewhere.
The development was confirmed by the Free State Stars General manager Rantsi Mokoena who also indicated they secured five new signings as replacements.
Quoted by the club official website, Mokoena noted;
We have made use of the window period and the AfCON break in making sure that we assess and sign five quality players to strengthen the team.
The team is ready to compete in the second round of the season.
We were struggling to find the back of the net and we have brought in two quality strikers to help out Sekotlong upfront whose injury is coming well and should be ready in no time.
We also struggled a bit on the left hand side but we have also brought in two experience players to compete in that department
As Free State Stars we would like to wish the players that have left the team the best of luck in their future endeavors and we warmly welcome the new guys
New manager Serame Letsoaka, who replaced Giovanni Solinas (whose contract was also terminated) has been reunited with one of his former players from Bloemfontein Celtic, Thabang Matuka, while former Kaizer Chiefs defender Simphiwe Mtsweni has also joined, both on free transfers.
Two strikers Mohammed Anas and Allen Dorian Nono have also been roped in with Mokoena citing their lack of goals in the first-half of the campaign as their main concern to rectify.
The fifth signing, playmaker Nhlakanipho Ntuli, is considered as the marquee signing with the South Africa youth international joining his first professional club in South Africa since leaving Eredivisie side FC Twente.
Kiiza joined the Ea Lla Koto last September as a free agent having served his former Tanzanian masters, Simba to perfection.
His intended destiny is yet to be clarified but Kawowo Sports is right on the ground to update with the latest development.
Kiiza played seven games for Free State Stars, failing to find the back of the net.
He has previously played at Proline (youth system), Uganda Revenue Authority and in Tanzania with Simba and Yanga.
For the Uganda Cranes, he has earned 26 caps, scoring 11 times.
