Entebbe F.C and Masavu F.C played to a 1-1 draw in a FUFA Big League encounter played at the Fisheries Training Institute playground in Entebbe on Sunday.

Half time of the well attended match ended goalless with both sides struggling to create clear goal scoring opportunities although the visitors enjoyed a lion’s share of ball possession.

Masavu striker Robert Sentongo Junior had a half chance to break the deadlock after 30 minutes but he was indecisive following a defence splitter from Onesmas Andama before he was checked by defender Benjamin Nyakojo (on loan from Vipers Sports Club).

Entebbe technical bench was forced to make an early change in the first half when a pedestrian and isolated center forward Robert Tenigwa was replaced by a mobile Innocent Hashyasha.

The two sides returned to the locker-rooms tied goal-less.

It was Masavu who showed the urgency to make an impact in the second half when second half change Sadi Kibirango who replaced Fred Umoni, 2 minutes after restart shot at the side netting from an acute angle.

Entebbe stabilized in the latter minutes especially with the introduction of former Bright Stars winger Lawrence Bajja.

Team captain, Ibrahim Pengere headed home Abraham Ndugwa’s cross after 65 minutes as Entebbe F.C took the lead.

Masavu equalized 10 minutes to the end of the game through second half substitute Solomon Wafula’s great timed header from another second half change Rashid ‘Katoito’ Kato.

Wafula (on loan to Masavu from Proline) had just replaced striker Sentongo and Kato had come on for injured midfielder Sulaiman Mutta.

Only two players (both from Entebbe) were booked for unsporting conduct.

Abraham Ndugwa was cautioned for kicking the ball away after the whistle had been blown whilst hard tackling midfielder Abdul Bbuye was punished for holding dribbling winger Rashid Kato.

Entebbe missed the services of their long serving team captain, Sande Mukiibi (injury) and Mande Nicodemus Ikesit (personal reasons).

Masavu’s prodigal sons Kenneth Tumusiime and Charles Odeke did not take part in the match for different reasons.

Tumusiime is away on work commitments as Odeke was a special guest at a traditional wedding ceremony of Uganda Cranes right back, Dennis Iguma.

Masavu now has 34 points from 14 games played.

On the other hand, Entebbe improves by a point to 16, but remains glued in the 8th position.

Meanwhile, Elgon Group leaders, Maroons humiliated Simba 5-0 at the Mashariki High School play ground, off Entebbe road.

Two sets of braces from striker Patrick Kaddu and Solomon Walusimbi as well as a goal from the exciting young left winger Pius Obuya ensured maximum points for Asaph Mwebaze’s coached side.

Maroons remain the only unbeaten club in the entire FUFA Big League and have accumulated 32 points from 14 matches.
