CAF Champions League
- 2nd Leg – Preliminary Round:
- St George (Ethiopia) 3-0 Cote D’Or (Seychelles) | Agg: 5-0
Following the earlier abandonment of the St George versus Cote D’Or return leg match in the CAF Champions League due to heavy rains on Sunday, the match was successfully completed on Monday morning.
The game continued from the 55th minute after being stopped due to a flooded Hawassa stadium on Sunday with St George leading 3-0.
Said Saladhin, veteran Adane Girma and Aschalew Tamene were on target for the home side.
After the downpour, the day’s referee deemed the ground unfit to be used as the ball could not easily move.
CAF there and then issued a directive through the match commissioner that the game would be completed the following morning (Monday) from the minute of last stoppage.
St George thus qualify 5-0 on aggregate having won the first leg 2-0 in Victoria, Seychelles last week.
Uganda Cranes’ goalkeeper Robert Odongkara was between the goal posts for St George.
St George is also home to another Uganda Cranes player, midfielder Yassar Mugerwa.
The 28 Ethiopia Premier League winners will take on Congo Brazzaville’s Leopard Football Club in the first round.
