The first round of Autocross left rally fans yearning for more from the junior drivers that raced against rally crews on Saturday at Nsimbe Estate, Mpigi.

The event was won by Hassan Alwi and Shyam Kotecha. The crew in a Subaru Impreza N14 posted the fastest time of 15 minutes and 40 seconds over two runs through the 8 kilometer distance.

However, it was Ali Omar Yasser, commonly known as ‘Bobo’ who made the main highlight of the day with his sublime performance in his buggy.

The 14-year-old motocross rider finished second overall; one minute, two seconds behind Alwi. But he had earlier tied with Alwi on eight minutes in run one of the stage.

“I think am getting more fond of the buggy.”

“I became more confident after a series of practice at Busiika,” said Yasser.

“It really makes me happy knowing that have beaten most of the drivers,” he added.

In third position was Arthur Blick Jnr also on a buggy; he was seven seconds behind Yasser.

Meanwhile, Yasser was joined by other junior drivers including his younger brother Wazir Omar and the Blick brothers; Alestair and Paddy Blick in the day’s race.

The next Autocross event is set for 10-12 June in Nsimbe Estate.
