Hosts Dolphins showed enormous class as they topped the boys’ category, of the Dolphins Junior Gala held at Gems Cambridge International School – Butabika over the weekend, with 329 points.
Dolphins are a regional powerhouse at this junior level and have won the prestigious Kenya Junior Age Group Championship six times since 2010 but there was a new twist to their own event given that both genders were awarded separately and that this event had more local representation.
For perspective, they usually travel to Nairobi with 40 swimmers but had 83 over the weekend while other local clubs also participated.
Their local rivals Seals were the winners in the girls category as they amassed 266 points, with the hosts not far off with 242 at the gala attended by 250 swimmers, of below 13 years, from 10 clubs including Kenya’s Life Time Swim Club.

Despite topping most individual categories, Silverfin Academy boys (223) and girls (209) settled for second and third respectively.
Life Time’s girls got 34 points while the boys got 26 to finish 6th and 5th respectively.
There were also prizes like goggles and piggy banks from DSTV for the top eight male and female swimmers in all three age categories. The top three swimmers per age category also received trophies.
