Following the release of the official tournament banner as a countdown to the event, the World Cricket League will be in Kampala from 21st to 31st May.

Uganda missed out on hosting this same event in 2015 when it was moved to Malaysia due to security concerns which prompted members of the USA team and Bermuda to refuse to travel to Kampala in case the event went ahead.

However, with the success of the 2017 IAAF Cross Country event at Kololo which is a stones throw away from Lugogo this must give ICC and other teams that Uganda is safe.

By virtue of being hosts Uganda is a favorite to progress to the main qualifying tournament for the World Cup but Oman and USA are very strong contenders.

Former Ugandan International Herny Osinde is on the selection committee for the Canada National team and they wont be push overs as they have properly prepared for the tournament.

Currently ranked 21st in the world, team Uganda is upbeat that the home conditions will favour their spin trio of Frank Nsubuga, Henry Senyondo and Captain Davis Karashani.

Cricket fans in Kampala cant wait for the games to begin when Uganda takes on Canada on 23rd May, 2017.

It’s evident in Lugogo from the preparations around the nets and the planting of grass around the boundary area.

Abok, who is in charge of the ground repairs, says the surface will be ready mid-May

“We are planting grass on the patches that have been bare so that players don’t get hurt while they practice in the nets, the rains have been a good blessing as this allows the grass to take root quickly so by mid may we shall have very good grass cover.”

Denis has represented Uganda in international cricket events including the World Cup. He is currently the captain of Wanderers Cricket Club.
