SC Villa’s chance of winning a league title for the first time since 2004 suffered another setback after they lost 1-0 to a determined Kirinya Jinja SS at Kakindu.

Bashir Mutanda, on loan from Vipers SC scored the winner from the penalty spot after a foul in the area.

The Jogoos, top of the log with 47 points came into the game on the back of a 1-0 defeat to rivals Express FC but saw them waste a number of chances in a barren first half with striker Umar Kasumba, the chief culprit.

Eight minutes after the break, the hosts were awarded a penalty which Mutanda slotted home to send the home fans into pandemonium.

The Jogoos pushed for the leveller but the closest they came to breaking the deadlock was when striker Emmanuel Okwi, a second half substitute hit the post from close range.

The Students had to endure a tough fifteen minutes to the final whistle as they had George Senkaaba sent off.

The win, Kirinya Jinja’s third on the bounce at home saw Abbey Kikomeko’s side rise to 11th on the 16-team table with 27 points from 25 games and thus enlighten their chances of staying up.
