KCCA twice came from behind to salvage a 2-2 draw in a thrilling league encounter at Phillip Omondi stadium, Lugogo.

Feni Ali and Hamis ‘Diego’ Kiiza on two occasions put the visitors in the lead but Isaac Muleme and Geoffrey Sserunkuma cancelled out the leads respectively as the Kasasiro regained top spot in the Uganda Premier League although on goal difference.

Feni slotted from close range after Kiiza’s effort off Ronald Kigongo’s low cross from the right hit the cross bar.

The visitors should have doubled their lead moments later but were lethargic despite creating the better goal scoring opportunities.

Ibrahim Kirya’s side dominance forced Mike Mutebi into reaction by withdrawing Paul Mucureezi for Isaac Muleme on the left side of attack and the change paid dividends in the 38th minute when Muleme volleyed home the leveller as the game went into the breather all square.

Mutebi still made the first change in the second half introducing striker Robert Ssentongo for midfielder Tom Masiko in a move intended to give the hosts numbers in attack.

But it were the Tax Collectors that went ahead again with Kiiza slotting home after Shafik Kagimu beat his marker to lay a low cross inside the 6 yard area.

The lead lasted just seven minutes as KCCA found another breakthrough from the spot after Julius Ntambi handled the ball in the area.

Sserunkuma, the league’s leading scorer sent goalie Alionzi Nafian the wrong side with a well taken strike to make it 2-2.

This forced Kirya to introduce Richard Wandyaka for the tired Feni and later Elkanah Nkugwa for Kagimu while Mutebi brought on Ivan Ntege for the young Allan Okello.

Despite late attacks from either side for the winner, the score remained unchanged as the Kasasiro, on 47 points, same as SC Villa went top with a superior goal difference while URA stays 3rd with six points adrift.

Perfect domestic record ended

The draw however brought to end the perfect domestic record since the astro turf was laid at Lugogo.

It’s the second time this season that KCCA has failed to beat up on a team at the venue with the other, a draw with Mamelodi Sundowns in the CAF Champions League.
