If back-to-back champions UCU Lady Canons are to face any challenge for the 2017 National Basketball League title, it certainly won’t come from A1.

The Lady Canons easily dispatched A1 Challenge in the first game of the season at Lugogo Indoor Stadium.

While A1 tried to keep it close in the first quarter as Lady Canons were dusting off the off-season, they could not find the basket either and they were edged 9-7 in the first 10 minutes of the game.

UCU scored 19 in the second quarter and were in charge 27-18 at the half and never looked back as shooting guard Ritah Imashimwe started from where she left off last season with game high 14 points and 5 steals.

Judith Nansobya came in handy with 12 points and returning Loraine Akinyi contributed 8 points.

For A1 it was Joanah Birungi who led the way with 11 points and Vickie Ondiso had 10. New signing Ruth Kirungi scored 9 points, 7 of which came from the line.
