Early preparations are part and parcel of many successful teams and individuals alike.
Head coach of the Uganda Cranes, Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredejovic has never been left out of the box in that context.
On Wednesday, when a group of 43 players assembled at the outside training ground of Nelson Mandela National stadium for the maiden training ahead of a number of games lined up, Micho alongside his assistants worked out for like three hours.
In stock for the national team are the qualifiers for 2018 CHAN, AFCON 2019 and the prestigious FIFA World Cup in Russia 2018.
Micho has the belief early training is one methodology of preparing the team to the promised land.
This weekend, the team will further test out in a domestic tour match against the Kitara Region – in Fort Portal and Micho has the hope the players positive character will steer the team.
“I am excited about the players’ response in training,” he stated.
To prove seriousness, he released 12 players who seemed heavy and not ready for the task at hand.
These included; Pius Kagwa (Synergy), Farouk Banga (Bright Stars), Ibrahim Kibumba and Rahmat Ssenfuka (Police), Oromchan Villa (Bul), Solomon Wafula (Masavu), Maxwell Okello (Maroons), Muhammad Yiga (Synergy), Juma Balinya (Masavu), Eddy Kapamba (Maroons), Issa Mubiru (The Saints) and Timothy Sebudde (Water).
Meanwhile, the maintained players will continue with the training drills before the final team to Fort Portal shall be officially disclosed.
Lebanese based midfielder, Hassan Wasswa Mawanda is part of the those training as the 2019 Nations Cup qualifier against Cape Verde is around the corner.
After the Kitara Region match the team shall fly out to Ethiopia for an international friendly match on 3rd June 2017.
There is another planned friendly match away to Senegal in Dakar before facing Cape Verde on 11th June 2017 in Praia.
