Lioness may have cruised through the women’s Division I last year but it will be a long season for them in the National Basketball League.

The League fresh-women were handed a 21 points defeat by Magic Stormers in their first game of the season on Sunday afternoon at YMCA.

While they looked comfortable against an average Stormers side in the first quarter, Lioness offense froze after a couple of minutes in the second frame in which they managed a mere 4 points.

Stormers did not look back thanks to Rose Akon’s 17 points and 11 rebounds performance that was complemented by Jane Kasinde (14 points and 9 rebounds) and Getrude Agiru (11 points).

Annet Nakiwu fouled out with team high 14 points and 9 rebounds and was the only Lioness player to reach double figures.

Next Games

It gets no tougher for Derrick Mbusi’s charges as their next opponents are defending champions UCU Lady Canons who they face on Friday, June 2.

Stormers will also have a tough outing in their next game. They take on a contender for this season’s crown JKL Lady Dolphins on Sunday, June 4.
