Gaddafi Gadinho capped off a memorable campaign in the Uganda Premier League in style by claiming a pair of club accolades.
The artistic midfielder was voted the Fans’ Player of the Season ahead of the club’s top scorer and skipper Shaban Mohammed, and also had one of his 9 goals win the Goal of the Season contest.
In a taut contest between him and the club’s shirt nine that had them tie, Gaddafi – after the club extended the voting for an extra day – prevailed over his captain, collecting 44.12% of the votes as compared to Shaban’s 38.24% to claim the top award.
The category had sensational young forward Livin ‘Messi’ Kabong and experienced striker Ceaser Okhuti as the other nominees. Kabong came third with 13.24% votes while Okhuti managed 4.41 votes to come fourth.
Gaddafi’s superlative long range strike from the right-hand side against relegated JMC Hippos in their one-all draw at Kakindu Stadium garnered 74.6% votes to win the Goal of the Season, beating Shaban’s fascinating strike against the record league winners SC Villa and Rashid Agau’s beauty in the Uganda Cup against Water FC to it.
Gaddafi wasn’t the only player to crown the season in fashion as the longest serving player at the club Gasper Adriko was also recognized by the fans for his immense contribution to the club in their maiden campaign in top flight.
The right back was named the Most Hardworking Player at the club. He beat competition from lanky defender Rashid Toha, midfielder Ivan Mbowa and Okhuti.
Fans voted Onduparaka’s 4-3 victory over SC Villa at the Green Light Stadium in October last year as the Biggest Win of the Season.
