Sofapaka coach Sam Ssimbwa has confirmed new signings in Ugandans Umar Kasumba and Feni Ali.

Kasumba, a centre forward joins as a free agent from SC Villa where he spent two years after joining from Police whilst Feni, an attacking midfielder with an eye for goal joins from URA.

“Kasumba and Feni will join us when the window officially opens,” Ssimbwa, on a short holiday in Uganda told Kawowo Sports. “Every detail is done and we hope to have them by the next time we play on June 18,” he added.

Kasumba has struggled to score goals at Villa Park but Ssimbwa believes he will get the best out of the centre forward whose potential has never been in doubt.

With us, he will score goals. He is a good centre forward and how he failed to score as many at Villa beats my understanding.

Title challenge

Although Sofapaka lies 6th on the 18-team Kenya Premier League log, seven points adrift of joint leaders Gor Mahia and Tusker, Ssimbwa says his side will be in the title mix.

“We have a team to mount a challenge. It’s just 13 games played and I believe with additions on the team, we can favorably compete though Tusker and Gor remain favourites.”

Kasibante released

Ssimbwa also confirmed the club has released compatriot James Kasibante with reports that former Maroons, SC Victoria University and KCCA striker Petit Wanok has also been released.

Other Ugandans at Batoto Bamungu

Besides new boys Kasumba and Feni, the former Kenyan champions also have Jonathan Mugabi, Mathias Kigonya and Johnson Bagoole as other Ugandans at the club.
