Behind the scenes a lot of planning is currently going for many clubs in the top flight ahead of the anticipated kick off of the 2017/18 Uganda Premier League.

Newly promoted Mbarara City is one entity among others busily boiling and getting ready for the virgin season.

After hiring veteran coach Frank ‘Video’ Anyau to fine tune the expected new recruits, the club as agreed personal terms with two players from different nationalities.

Fast forward, the club recruited Congolese winger Swed “Di Maria” Satugombo, and now they are in advanced talks with Burundi captain Gael Duhayindavyi.

Duhayindavyi has been actively involved in the Burundi Premier League with LLB Académic.

According to the media liaison officer Mike Ddungu, the 26-year-old is set to join the Ankole Lions for an undisclosed fee on a two-year deal.

“The deal for Duhayindavyi is almost done and dusted,” Ddungu noted.

The roving midfielder captained Burundi national team in the Chan 2014.

He was invited by El Mahdy Mohamed, the national team coach in 2014 African Nations Championship hosted in South Africa.

He has scored once in 27 caps for Burundi.

In case the deal materializes, Duhayindavyi will join an Burundian, Arthur Arakaza in the Uganda Premier League.

Arakaza features for the 16-time record league winners, Sports Club Villa Jogoo.
