Reigning African champions Cameroon had a bright start to the AFCON 2019 qualification campaign with a slim 1-0 home win against Morocco at the Omnisports Ahmadou Ahidjo, Yaounde on Saturday.

Vincent Aboubakar scored the lone goal on the day in the 29th minute to inspire Hugo Broos’ coached side past Hevre Renard’s charges.

At the Kamuzu Banda stadium in Blantyre city, hosts Malawi got off to a winning start as well in the same group.

Gerald Junior Phiri scored a minute after the opening half hour in Malawi’s 1-0 victory against a hard fighting Comoros outfit.

Both Malawi and Cameroon are now joint leaders of the group with three points and one goal scored apiece.

The next round of the qualifiers will be played on 23rd March 2018.

Cameroon shall play away in Comoros while Morocco shall be home in Rabat against Malawi on the same day.
