Mike Mutebi has confirmed that Benjamin Ochan will start in goal for KCCA in the Uganda Cup final against Paidha Black Angels.
The club has often used Charles Lukwago and Douglas Kisembo in the Cup competition but that changed in the second leg of the semi-final clash against Express FC when Ochan was preferred.
Mutebi then revealed the change was due to the fact that a game against Rivers United was lurking and wanted to use largely a side with the players he intended to play that weekend.
Coincidently, the final comes five days to the game away to the Nigerian side and Mutebi stresses why Ochan will play ahead of Kisembo whose father was in goal for Gangama in 1989 when they won the competition.
“I can’t talk about history of the father when we have present things to do,” said Mutebi in reference to Kisembo and his dad. “We have to play Rivers United and the players who are going to play, are the ones who are going to largely represent us,” he added.
Benjamin Ochan is available in goal. As far as am concerned, he is currently the best goalkeeper on the continent. So why should I lose by best players.
I know Douglas and Lukwago are supposed to be our Cup keepers but this is a final and we can’t afford to miss our best players.
The gaffer, in his third stint at Lugogo however revealed that Kisembo, the former Police FC custodian will be in the match day squad.
But of course he is amongst the 18 and amongst the 18, we win the Cup and he gets a medal. That’s enough representation.
KCCA are seeking to join rivals SC Villa and Express on the distinguished list of clubs to have won a league and Cup double in the history of Ugandan football.
