Isak Ssali Ssewankambo is a Swedish national born to a Ugandan father and Swedish mother.

A well-built right back at 5 feet, 10 inches, he was born in Angered City of Sweden 21 years ago.

Ssewankambo has already played for three underage Swedish national teams – U-17, U-19 and currently the U-21.

He is now at Norwegian side Molde F.K, a top flight side managed by former Manchester United legend, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

He started his youth career at Larje Angereds IF aged 10 years.

He continued to IFK Goteborg and back at Larje Angereds before he crossed over to the English Premier League side, Chelsea, aged 14 years.

In 2014, he left Chelsea after two years in preference for first time football.

“He is leaving Chelsea in favour of first team football,” his representative was quoted then.

He then left for NAC Breda where he turned up for one season, moved on to Derby County in the 2015/16 season before he joined Molde in March 2016 for an undisclosed fee.

Ssewankambo’s key highlight was the bronze medal with Sweden in the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup held by United Arab Emirates.

Sweden overcame Argentina 4-1 in the 3rd place playoff (Nigeria beat Mexico 3-0 in final).

He is part of the Sweden squad coached by Håkan Ericson at the on-going UEFA U-21 championship in Poland.

He was an unused substitute in Sweden’s goalless draw with England in Group A in Kielce on Friday.

They face hosts Poland and Slovakia on Monday and Thursday next week respectively. Both matches are in Lublin City.

Like many Ugandans born outside the country, Ssewankambo faces a dilemma of playing senior team football for his country of decent vis-à-vis country of birth.
