In the aftermath of Rivers United 2-1 win over KCCA on Tuesday, Stanley Eguma is adamant his side will reach the last eight.

Bernard Ovoke and Fredrick Obomate scored for the hosts at the Liberation stadium, Port Harcourt to give the hosts a win that took them to six points, same as the other three teams.

“We won but I expected more goals because this is a game of goals, and for us to qualify, we must score more goals,” Eguma told a post-match press briefing.

Yes, it is a game of football, and nobody can change the result, but I am very optimistic that we will qualify from the group and move to the next stage of the competition.

The Nigerian side were dominant and created a couple of opportunities in the first half but only put away two and were punished at the death of half time when Geoffrey Sserunkuma capitalized on poor defending to slot home.

The goal they scored against us was a cheap one, and it is because we became careless. The game paid us back for being careless.

It was the first time the side conceded a home goal in the continental competition after keeping clean sheets against Real Bamako, Al Merriekh, Rayon Sport and FUS Rabat.

Their next outing is a home fixture against Tunisia’s Club Africain, a side they lost to, 3-1 in the reverse fixture.
