Injured Express FC defender Vincent Onyebuchi, who broke his left leg in the aborted Uganda Premier League match against Proline at Muteesa II Stadium Wankulukuku could face amputation.

The sad and worrying development follows deterioration in the state of the leg after months of treatment at Mengo Hospital in Kampala where he was also operated at some stage.

Onyebuchi was transferred to the neighboring Lisa Medical Centre in Mengo for more advanced treatment up to this stage.

According to his care taker, Remmy Makumbi, the Nigerian player is in deep pain and calls upon the concerned authorities to come with quick rescue before the player loses the leg.

“The situation has transformed from bad to worse. The player may lose the leg due to negligence. We have had little care since this injury happened,” Makumbi cried out.

Express Football Club management has been at the fore front of looking after the defender but finances have been remitted to the medical centers at a snail pace.

At a time when he was still  admitted at Mengo Hospital, the medical bill that had risen to 9,110,300/= had only 3,350,000/= paid with a pending balance of 5,760,300/=.

It remains a mystery whether the balance had been cleared by the time he was transferred to Lisa Medical center.

The club’s acting CEO, Ivan Kintu Bayige assured Kawowo Sports that the player will recover.

“He  (Onyebuchi) will be fine” Bayige disclosed on Saturday.

Express chairperson, Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi could not be readily available for comments on the development as she could not answer to their known official telephone contacts.

David Isabirye is a senior staff writer for Kawowo Sports where he covers most of the major events.
