Seven of the eight scheduled matches in the Airtel Masaza Cup were played on Sunday at various grounds in Buganda Kingdom.
Three time winners Mawokota registered an emphatic 3-0 victory away to Butambala at the Kibibi S.S playground. Ismail Ziwa, Richard Basangwa and Brian Kalumba were on target for Mawokota.
At the Kasenyi playground in Mubende, Ssingo pipped Buwekula 1-0 in a closely contested game. Jamie Kisitu Nvule hurt his former pay masters with the lone strike for Shafiq Bisaso’s led side.
Gomba, winners in 2004, 2009 and lately 2014 smiled to a 4-1 victory away to Busujju at the Kimuli playground, 10 miles off Mityana – Mubende road. Allan Sserunga notched a brace, Abdallah Sentongo and lethal striker Joseph Jjanjali were all on target for last year’s losing finalists.
Bugerere and Bulemeezi played to a one-all draw in Kayunga as Busiro overcame Buvuma on the lake Victoria island play ground of Magyo.
Kabula edged poor travelers Ssese 2-0 at the Bakijulula playground in Lyantonde district.
Kooki and the reigning champions Buddu played to a goal-less draw at the Lwanda playground in Rakai district.
Meanwhile, the Buluuli – Kyaggwe game that was due to be played at the UMEA Primary School, Mijeera in Nakasongola was not played because Buluuli side failed to produce player Licences prior to kick off.
With virtually, most teams done with the group stage matches, there is only one match day left for groups.
Next weekend will present resting time for those teams not in action.
Only two teams qualify per group to the quarter finals.
